Monday 29th December - walks **** – Sutton Hoo near Woodbridge – cloudy.

Being our son Roberts birthday Mag made a cake with the Grandson first thing as I packed a large picnic as we are heading to Sutton Hoo, the famous Saxon longboat burial site run by the National Trust! We all get into Robs new car and we set off towards Woodbridge arriving at a full car park at midday and wrap up well against the cold as cloudy with no sunshine today:( Arlo and his mum are members of the National Trust so don’t have to pay, we used to be members but as there are very few sites in Suffolk we let it go so had to pay, it is we think overpriced for what is onsite but never mind as we really enjoyed the day despite the gloom! There is a large metal replica of the longboat which says no climbing which is a bit sad but we did get some pics of Arlo by the boat! We then took the path to the burial mounds where the longboat was discovered just before world war two and has a film made of it, Arlo enjoyed himself tree climbing before passing the mounds to the tall viewing tower which gave great views towards Woodbridge and the Royal Burial ground. We then continued through a lovely wood and went down to the River Deben and had our picnic on a log overlooking Woodbridge marina:) After a top lunch Arlo with mum and dad headed back to see the High Hall exhibition while Mag and I continued along the Deben opposite the Tide Mill where there is a jetty as there used to be a ferry! We did get a little lost but made it back to the centre and finally meet up with the others!
It was then home for a top birthday party and games night with both our boys and their partners, both Grandchildren and several kids, well they are young adults now we used to childmind many years ago and it was absolutely brilliant! Top day, a great time was had by all:)
